Weleda uses distilled and deionized water. Distilled water has been boiled and the steam has condensed, yielding pure, uncontaminated water.

Jojoba Seed Oil is an oily liquid wax that is very similar to the protective layer of the human skin. It is very skin friendly, easily absorbed and is therefore a suitable care product for all skin types, especially for dry skin.

Alcohol is another term for ethanol or ethyl alcohol. In manufacturing plant extracts contained in Weleda's products, mixtures of alcohol and water are used as extraction agents in some formulations. The consistency and stability of natural cosmetic products are improved by alcohol.

In cosmetic products glycerin is used as a moisturizing agent due to its water-attracting properties and it makes skin feel smooth. Weleda uses glycerin derived from the coconut or palm kernel oil.

The distillate of witch hazel has a toning and soothing effect on the skin. Therefore, witch hazel water is a suitable component of facial cleansing products.

A form of Beeswax derived through the hydrolysis—the process of turning something into water—of beeswax. It possesses the same skin caring abilities as Beeswax and helps give a formula consistency.

The emollients of Glyceryl Stearate Citrate leave the skin feeling soft, silky and smooth.

This gentle and nourishing botanical possesses soothing properties. Commonly referred to as Marigold, this annual herb is from the Family Asteraceae, the Sunflower Family. The Calendula plant is comprised of carotenoids, flavonoids and essential oils.

Extracts of Iris rootstock regulate the moisture level of the skin. The rootstock of Iris consists in large part of starch and contains mucilaginous substances, tannins as well as essential oil, which is responsible for the violet-type odor of the dried Iris rhizome. (from essential oils)

Magnesium Aluminum Silicate is a dermatological compatible mineral bulking agent and stabilizer for emulsions, creams, toothpastes, gels or powder. It is a weathering product of various feldspars, which are considered the most important rock-forming minerals of the earth's crust.

Xanthan Gum is a high molecular weight, long chain carbohydrate (polysaccharide), which is used as a gelling agent, emulsion stabilizer, binder and viscosity regulator.

Sodium Beeswax (beeswax soap) is derived from beeswax. The slight emulsifying effect in the beeswax is reinforced in the beeswax soap. It serves as an emulsifier and provides the same skin-caring properties as Cera Flava (Beeswax).

Fragrance (Parfum) is the collective name for raw materials that are used to perfume cosmetic products. For such products, Weleda only ever uses a mixture of essential oils. Synthetic fragrances are not utilized. (from essential oils)
